Born on March 22, 1934, in Homestead Park, Pennsylvania, he graduated from Brigham Young University and the University of Pittsburgh Law School. Hatch was known for his work on health care, judiciary reform, and tax policy. He chaired several committees, including the Judiciary, Finance, and Labor and Human Resources Committees, and served as President Pro Tempore of the Senate from 2015 to 2019. After choosing not to seek reelection in 2018, Hatch retired and later passed away on April 23, 2022, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
