Lisa Murkowski is Alaska’s senior U.S. Senator and the first Alaskan-born senator. Born in Ketchikan, Alaska, she was raised in various Alaskan towns. Since joining the Senate in 2002, she has worked collaboratively across the aisle to serve the interests of her state. A leader on energy and public lands issues, she advocates for policies that support domestic energy production, renewable energy, and Arctic strategy. Murkowski has pushed for the expansion of America's icebreaker fleet and stronger U.S. presence in the Arctic. She is a member of several Senate committees including Appropriations, Energy and Natural Resources, and Health, Education, Labor & Pensions. Senator Murkowski has also focused on issues like veterans’ affairs, infrastructure development, and energy efficiency. A dedicated outdoorswoman, Murkowski enjoys skiing, hiking, and hunting. She is married to Verne Martell and has two grown sons. Senator Murkowski was re-elected in 2022 for another six-year term, following a historic write-in campaign in 2010.
